The Project for the OLD American Century ... if you're like me you pop on there every day to see what's happening in the world. It's just so darn convenient. Links from all over the world, from all manner of news sources, reporting things I'd never hear of unless I decided to sit infront of the computer ten hours a day and do endless searches for various topics.
Which is about what goes into making POAC such a great site, and what makes it such a shame that TJ is going broke providing such a crucial service.
I've been sincerely moved by the sheer numbers of donations that come out of this community, for politicians and people like Gina and ct. The generosity is compounded by the conviction to throw our collective weight behind causes we believe in, be it organizing a huge convention or helping someone get their life back together. Not all of us have the time or talent to do what Gina or ct does, but we can all spare five bucks to support them as they use their talents for the common good.
In the same vein, not all of us have the patience or dedication to do what TJ does, to sift through endless links day after day and post the important ones for us desk jockies and wage slaves to educate ourselves with. I don't know about anyone else, but I really depend on the POAC to round out any given news cycle, since I know for a fact CNN isn't doing me any favors with their coverage of ... well, anything.
POAC is like NPR: we all get the benefit from it even if we don't give, unless no one gives, in which case they're out of business and everyone loses. So time to pony up and support the linkmaster of the netroots, without whom so many stories would go unheard and unlinked to. If just .1% of this site's daily traffic donates $2 a month the POAC could keep running forever. That's how little it will take to keep the netroots' version of NPR running, $24 bucks a year from a thousand people.
